Câu hỏi đuôi (Tag question) theo chuẩn ngữ pháp tiếng Anh

Câu hỏi đuôi (tiếng Anh là Tag Question) là một trong những dạng câu hỏi rất hay được sử dụng trong tiếng Anh, luyện thi TOEIC hay đặc biệt là trong bài thi IELTS, hay tiếng Anh giao tiếp. Câu hỏi đuôi là dạng một câu hỏi rất ngắn đứng sau một câu trần thuật, câu trả lời của câu hỏi này ở dạng YES/NO nhưng mang những sắc thái ý nghĩa khác nhau.

Ví dụ: They are doctor, aren’t they?

Có một lưu ý là trong trường hợp người hỏi hạ tông giọng ở phần cuối câu hỏi thì thật ra họ không muốn hỏi mà chỉ là chờ xem người kia có đồng ý với câu mình nói hay không. Khi người ta lên tông giọng ở cuối câu hỏi thì đó mới là lúc người đó muốn hỏi thật sự và muốn nhận câu trả lời từ bạn.

Cấu trúc ngữ pháp của câu hỏi đuôi

Đối với động từ thường (ordinary verbs)

Câu giới thiệu phủ định, phần hỏi đuôi khẳng định.

  • S + don’t/ doesn’t/didn’t + V….., do/does/did + S?

Câu giới thiệu khẳng định, phần hỏi đuôi phủ định.

  • S + V(s/es/ed/2)….., don’t/doesn’t/didn’t + S?
Hiện tại đơn với TO BE – He is intelligent, is he? (Anh ấy thông minh, đúng không?)

– You are nervous, aren’t you? (Bạn đang hồi hộp, phải không?)
Hiện tại đơn động từ thường: mượn trợ động từ DO hoặc DOES tùy thuộc theo chủ ngữ. – They like she, doesn’t she? (Họ thích cô ấy, đúng không?)

– He loves you, doesn’t he? (Anh ấy yêu bạn, đúng không?)
Thì quá khứ đơn với động từ thường: mượn trợ động từ DID, quá khứ đơn với TO BE: WAS hoặc WERE: – She didn’t come here, did she? (Cô ấy đã không đến đây phải không?)

– She was friendly, wasn’t she? (Cô ấy rất thân thiện đúng không?
Thì hiện tại hoàn thành hoặc hiện tại hoàn thành tiếp diễn: mượn trợ động từ HAVE hoặc HAS – They have left, haven’t they?

– The cars has stopped, hasn’t they?
Thì quá khứ hoàn thành hoặc quá khứ hoàn thành tiếp diễn: mượn trợ động từ HAD – She hadn’t met you before, had she?
Thì tương lai đơn – It will rain, won’t it?

Bạn hãy để ý tới nghĩa của YES và NO trong câu trả lời cho những câu hỏi phủ định:

– You’re not going to the cinema today, are you? (Hôm nay bạn không đi xem phim phải không?)

– Yes = Yes, I am going to the cinema. (Có = Có, tôi có đi xem phim)

– No = No, I am not going to the cinema. (Không = Không, tôi không đi xem phim)

Đối với các động từ đặc biệt (special)

Là những động từ khi đổi sang câu phủ định thì ta thêm NOT phía sau động từ, khi đổi sang câu nghi vấn đưa chính động từ đó lên đằng trước chủ ngữ.

Câu giới thiệu khẳng định, phần hỏi đuôi phủ định

S + special verb….. , special verb + not + S?

Ví dụ:

– You are a dentist, aren’t you?

– He has just bought a new motorbike, hasn’t he?

Câu giới thiệu phủ định, phần hỏi đuôi khẳng định

S + special verb + not….., special verb + S?

Ví dụ:
– You aren’t a dentist, are you?

– He hasn’t bought a new motorbike, has he?

Đối với động từ khiếm khuyết

Câu giới thiệu khẳng định, phần hỏi đuôi phủ định.

S + modal verb…………., modal verb + not + S?

Ví dụ:
– She can speak Spanish, can’t she?
– Thomas will go to Chicago next month, won’t he?

Câu giới thiệu phủ định, phần hỏi đuôi khẳng định

S + modal verb + not…………., modal verb + S?

Ví dụ:
– She can’t speak Spanish, can she?
– Thomas won’t go to Chicago next month, will he?
